DANCE TEAM CLASSIFICATIONS
PreK - Kindergarten
Elementary: 1-3 grades
Elementary: 4-6 grades
Jr High/Middle School: 7-8 grades
Jr High/Middle School: Private/Studio: 7-8 grades
High School: Private/Studio
High School: Jr Varisty
High School: S Team (2-15 dancers)
High School: M Team (16-29 dancers)
High School: L Team (30-49 dancers)
High School: XL Team (50+ dancers)
Open: Private/Studio
Public High School team size determines its competitive division.
Small Team: 2-15 Medium Team: 16-29 Large Team: 30-49 Super Team: 50+
Private High School and Junior High/Middle School teams will not be subject to team size guidelines.
All Star/Studio Dance Teams’ grade level of the oldest team member determines their competitive division. Neither team size nor gender will apply to this classification. The following system will apply:
Pre Kindergarten – Kindergarten
Grades 1-3
Grades 4-6
Grades 7-9
Grades 9-12
Open
Officer Lines will compete in the same division as their team. The same set of officers must participate in each routine entry.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Vista Ridge Dance Championship registration form must be mailed or faxed 14 days prior to the contest date. You may also register online at: www.vistaridgedancechampionship.com . For the convenience of scheduling, please register as early as possible even if you do not have all of your soloist and ensemble names. Solo and ensemble names must be submitted 14 days before the competition.
Confirmation packets and contest schedules will be emailed one week prior to the competition. A preliminary schedule will also be posted on our website the weekend before the competition with a final update on the Thursday evening prior to the contest.
CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS
No refunds will be made to participants canceling within 14 days of contest date. Accordingly, all participants with registrations submitted and unpaid within this time frame will remain responsible for the fees should they opt to cancel within 14 days of the contest date.
Refunds must be requested in writing and received at least 14 days prior to competition date. Phone calls are not acceptable.
All entry fees must be paid by date of the competition or performers may not be allowed to participate in the contest.
DANCE TEAM ROUTINE GUIDELINES
Including set up/entrances/breakdown/exits, teams have a total of 5 minutes of floor time per routine in Jazz, Hip Hop, Military, High Kick, Pom, Lyrical, Modern, Novelty, and Open. Prop routines will be given a total of 6 minutes and Show Productions will be allotted 10 total minutes. Entrances and exits are not judged.
Total routine time with set-up and breakdown and backdrops should not exceed time limits itemized above. A one point penalty per judge per minute will be assessed for exceeding routine time limit.
Music must be recorded on compact discs. Bring back up CDs to avoid technical problems.
Performance area is 96’ x 50’. (Regulation Basketball court)
All props and backdrops should be taped to avoid damage to wooden floors, and should be constructed to fit through a gymnasium 7’ double door with center cross bar removed.
DANCE ENSEMBLE AND SOLO GUIDELINES
Duets, Small Ensembles and Large Ensembles should be 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
Solo routines must be limited to 2 minutes. A 5 point penalty will be assessed if the performance is greater than 2 minutes and 15 seconds. There will be 7 grade divisions offered for solos: PreK-K, 1-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and Open.
JUDGING CRITERIA
A panel of professional judges will provide oral tape critiques on all Team, Officer Line, Ensemble, and Solo Performances. Score sheets indicating the numeric scores for each caption will accompany the critiques.

Vista Ridge High School, the POSSE Booster Club, directors, officers, or the Leander ISD school district assumes no liability for personal injury or personal property loss.

Personal cameras are permitted, however no flash photography will be allowed.
Personal video cameras are permitted, however no tripods will be allowed.
